Today, I would like to write about a personally unique project. For the first time in the history of the blog, I present a product, which is 100% produced by myself – from the initial design and forms, and ending with the sewing of the buttons of the waistcoat. To begin with, I must mention that the sewing of the waistcoat was a time consuming process, and burdened with a high risk of failure, but thanks to the advice and experience of an excellent seamstress, the final result is …well, I will leave it up to you for the final assessment.
For a long time I was thinking of buying a waistcoat/vest, I visited a lot of stores, that advertised these products, but unfortunately, these searches always ended in disaster. This did not dampen my enthusiasm and maniacally I continued to look for a place where I could acquire a dream product. The prospects of finding a suitable waistcoat or vest, as they say in USA, was diminishing so I decided to create one from scratch.

On the sewing process I will not elaborate because neither written text or instructional videos, in my opinion, are able to illustrate the art of tailoring. Let me just say that, for me, the only way forward was to learn through meticulous tracking and observing the agile movements of the hands of experienced tailors and slowly absorbing their knowledge. The process of creating from the initial sketch through to the fastening of the final button on the finished product, in this specific case took many, many hours. For sure, this process will be shorter when I acquire more confidence in working with a needle.
An interesting question – should a young man wear a waistcoat or is it a remnant of a bygone era? Definitely, this is one of the items that should be in every man’s wardrobe! Why? A waistcoat or vest is a product that gives us originality and also is an easy way to bring elegance to an outfit without making mistakes. This is one of the few products of the fashion classic, which we can use in everyday styling.

A very important element is the selection of appropriate fabrics and fashion. The Fabric, composition and color or pattern will be determined by the degree of formality. Due to the colour and pattern (grid) of the waistcoat I have designed, it can be used both traditionally under a jacket, as well as looser casual styling. The whole styling is a combination of classic colors (white, gray, navy), which perfectly fit into the upcoming summery atmosphere. My outfit was supplemented with brown extras, including a watch, belt and additionally a classic cognac coloured Whole-cut Oxford shoe, which further through its pure form gives the whole outfit a harmonious character. Waistcoats have long ceased to be a relic of the past, and are increasingly used by top brands, but are still absent in my country, Poland. In the coming years I predict a waistcoat renaissance, but we need to stop thinking that the waistcoat is only worn by men over 60+. I think that once anyone has worn a well-tailored vest on their shoulders and see themselves in a mirror they will definitely change their mind on this often over-looked item of clothing.
