Czy w dobie ciągłego pędu za wyższymi zarobkami czy nowszym modelem samochodu mężczyzna ma czas na bycie dżentelmenem?

Zacznijmy od definicji, dżentelmen (ang. gentleman, fr. gentilhomme, hiszp. gentilhombre, wł. gentiluomo) – współcześnie mężczyzna o dobrym, uprzejmym, wspaniałomyślnym i kurtuazyjnym zachowaniu, bardzo miły.

Dziś przez wielu słowo dżentelmen kojarzone jest modą. Bardzo często słyszę zdanie „wygląda Pan jak prawdziwy dżentelmen”, które traktuję z dużą ostrożnością. Oczywiście, od tego jak wyglądamy zależy jak jesteśmy postrzegani, z pewnością dżentelmem nie zostanie określony mężczyzna w nieschludnym stroju. Nasz wygląd po części determinuje to, kim jesteśmy. Pewne elementy garderoby oddziaływują na nas w wyraźny sposób. Jeden prosty eksperyment zobrazuje nam wpływ jaki na postawę mężczyzny ma garnitur. Zakładając go, mężczyzna, który na codzień lubi się zgarbić jak znak zapytania, nagle prostuje swoją sylwetkę, niczym rycerz w hartowanej zbroi. W momencie zdjęcia z ramion marynarki, czar pryska, a z nim troska o poprawną postawę.

Dużo istotniejsze w byciu dżentelmenem, od tego jak wyglądamy jest to jak się zachowujemy. Dżentelmen to mężczyzna, który kieruje się w życiu jasnymi zasadami, nie kłamie, jest dbały, dotrzymuje obietnic, jest niezawodny i można na nim polegać, nie jest egocentryczny, zapatrzony w siebie ani narcystyczny i pomaga słabszym. Oczywiście cech prawdziwego dżentelmena można wymieniać bez liku, natomiast najkrócej można te cechy podsumować stwierdzając, że prawdziwy dżentelmen to inaczej porządny człowiek.

My mężczyźni XXI wieku musimy pracować nad małymi gestami. Jeszcze dziś wychodząc z domu, pracy, czy sklepu przepuść w drzwiach kobietę, która idzie za tobą czy otwórz jej drzwi, kiedy widzisz, że ma zajęte ręce. Pomóż starszej osobie wnieść torbę do tramwaju czy ustąp miejsca przyszłej, młodej mamie. Kup swojej kobiecie kwiaty bez okazji czy włóż po kolacji naczynia do zmywarki. Są to małe rzeczy, które nas mężczyzn nie kosztują wiele, a kobietom dadzą wiele radości. Dżentelmenem nie jest ten, który nosi garnitury szyte na miarę czy szwajcarskie zegarki, choć oczywiście nie ma nic przyjemniejszego niż włożenie specjalnie skrojonego dla nas przez krawca garnituru. Ale są to tylko dodatki, które bez stojącego za nimi charakteru i męskiego etosu nie będą niczym innym, jak tylko ładnym obrazkiem na mapie ‚street fashion’.

Tak więc Panowie, bądźmy dżentelmenami na miarę swoich czasów. Stać nas na to!

In this era of continuous striving for higher wages and a newer model of car, has man got time to be a gentleman?

Before I answer the question, let’s start with the definition of a gentleman (eng. Gentleman, fr. Gentilhomme, es Gentilhombre, itl Gentiluomo) – a man with a good, kind, generous and courteous behaviour.

Today, the word gentleman is often associated with fashion. At many times I hear the phrase „you look like a real gentleman”, which I treat with caution. Of course, since we depend on how we are perceived, ‚a gentleman’ cannot be someone in a messy and ill fitting outfit. Our appearance, in part, determines who we are. Certain items of clothing and styles affect us in a definite way. One example is how clearly a suit will have an impact on the attitude of a man. The assumption is that a man who daily stoops like a question mark, suddenly straightens his silhouette, when a well fitted suit is put on, like a knight in armour.  But when you take off the suit, like the armour, the spell is broken and with it any concern for the correct attitude.

However, more import_ant than looking like a gentleman is that we behave like a gentleman. A gentleman is a man who is guided by clear rules in life; does not lie; is attentive; keeps his promises; is reliable (and people can rely on him) and  is not self-centred, inward-looking nor narcissistic and will always help those who are weaker. Of course, the characteristic of a true gentleman can be replaced with other descriptions but you can briefly summarise these characteristics by stating that the true gentleman is, most importantly, a decent man.

Us twenty-first century men, we must work with small gestures. Even today, from home, work or the shop hold the door for a woman who goes by you or open the door when you see someone with their hands full. Help the older person to bring a bag from the train or give up your seat to a young mother. Buy your woman flowers without needing an occasion or put away the dinner plates into the dishwasher after a meal. These are the little things that do not cost us much and women get a lot of joy from. A gentleman is not the guy who wears made-to-measure suits or Swiss watches (but, of course, there is nothing nicer than putting on a tailored suit for the first time). We must care about all these things because if we forget we are just men in a nice looking suit and not true gentlemen.

So, gentlemen, let’s be gentlemen of this time – 21st century gentlemen! We can afford it!

Camelowy płaszcz -jak go nosić /Camel Coloured Coat

Nadchodząca wiosna przyniesie ze sobą nowe trendy kolorystyczne, jednak klasyka okryć wierzchnich pozostanie bez zmian. Na wysokich miejscach nadal plasować się będą płaszcze klasyczne, które z sezonu na sezon jedynie umacniają swoją pozycję. Stan ten to być może konsekwencja trendu, który bazuje na wykorzystaniu klasycznych modeli płaszczy w outfit-ach street-owych. Wygrana klasyki bardzo mnie cieszy i mam nadzieję, że męskie płaszcze oversize’owe to tylko chwilowy trend, a producenci i kreatorzy stylu powrócą na jesieni do klasycznych fasonów. Tej wiosny na naszych ulicach zawita zieleń (!!!), i to nie tylko ta bazująca na kolorach ‚natury’.

U rodzimych producentów niestety jeszcze tego trendu nie widać, ale włoskie marki już w jesiennych kolekcjach lansowały zielone elementy męskiej garderoby. Piękny, dwurzędowy płaszcz w kolorze butelkowej zieleni, który mierzyłem w jednym z neapolitańskich butików, ku mojemu głębokiemu rozczarowaniu, nie pasował do mojej karnacji. Paradoksalnie, zieleń jest kolorem trudnym i o dziwo dużo łatwiej pracowało mi się z marsalą. Zieleń zdecydowanie nie jest moim kolorem, ale może to jedynie kwestia czasu 😉

W dzisiejszym wpisie chciałem przybliżyć wam camel’owy płaszcz, który nabyłem podczas pobytu w Neapolu. Kolor płaszcza nie jest niczym nadzwyczajnym. W momencie, kiedy H&M wypuścił linię płaszczy sygnowanych nazwiskiem Davida Beckhama, na ulicach polskich miast zaroiło się od dyplomatek w tym kolorze. Oznacza to, że polska ulica na stałe przyjęła i ‚opatrzyła się’ z tym kolorem, który wyjątkowo sprawdza się w przypadku okryć wierzchnich. Z pewnością gdyby nie piękny fason, jakość wykonania oraz cena, nigdy bym na niego nie spojrzał, głównie z tego powodu, że w mojej szafie wiszą już camelowe wełny .

Płaszcze dwurzędowe mają swego rodzaju niepowtarzalny charakter, który bardzo mi odpowiada. Coraz częściej możemy je zobaczyć w kolekcjach rodzimych marek, ale o camelowy, dwurzędowy płaszcz, który spełniałby moje oczekiwania jakościowe nadal jest trudno. Jest to jeden z najbardziej uniwersalnych modeli, który sprawdzi się zarówno z w eleganckich, jak i wspominanych na początku wpisu, street-owych outfit’ach. W zestawieniu z odpowiednim kolorem garnituru czy granatowymi jeansami tworzy idealny look.

Jest to płaszcz codzienny, oczywiście nie oznacza to, że jest mniej oficjalny, ale jeżeli potrzebujesz płaszcza na codzień, jest to idealny wybór. Dodatkowo model ten uzupełniłem paskiem martingale, który pierwotnie służył do regulowania rozmiaru talii, natomiast aktualnie pełni funkcję dekoracyjną. Z pewnością jest to wyjątkowo ciekawy element, który dodaje odrobiny militarnego charakteru, a w połączeniu z włoskim designem tworzy bardzo interesującą całość.

The coming Spring season will introduce new colour trends whilst the core styles will mainly remain unchanged. Impressively, from season to season, some coats have managed to improve their position in terms of popularity. However, this popularity brings consequences, which introduced the common use of classical coat models in street fashion – resulting in big over-sized coats. Although I welcome the use of double breasted jackets in all forms of fashion, I hope that men’s oversized coats are only a temporary trend and that in the Autumn, producers and creators of style will return to more classical styling.

This Spring, green will arrive on our streets !! and not just the natural hue. Unfortunately, for domestic producers this has not yet manifested, however in the Italian brands we saw this in their autumn collections – many elements of green in the male wardrobe. I discovered a beautiful double-breasted coat in the colour of bottle-green, which I personally measured for one in Neapolitan boutiques, but unfortunately the colour did not suit me! In my opinion, green is a more difficult color to coordinate than marsala, which I find easier to work with. Green is definitely not for me, but it could also be a matter of time;) …

In today’s post I want to present to you a camel-coloured coat, which was also bought during my stay in Naples. The color of this coat is not unusual, since when H & M released a line of coats under the David Beckham name, the streets of Polish cities are teeming with diplomats and businessmen in this color. This means that Polish street fashion permanently adopted this color, which is uniquely suited for outerwear.

Certainly, if the coat had not consisted of beautiful fashion styling, quality and price I would not have even looked at it, because I already own a wool camel-coloured coat, which was hanging in my closet 😉 Double-breasted coats are of a unique kind of character that personally suits me very well. More and more often, we see them in the collections of British brands, but Camel double-breasted coat that also meet the quality expectations we expect, are still difficult to find. It is one of the most versatile models that will work with both elegant and, as mentioned at the beginning of the entry, with street styling. The coat creates the perfect look being paired with either a contrasted color suits or dark blue jeans.

If you are looking for a coat to wear daily, then this is the perfect choice because of the versatility of being able to work formally or casually. In addition, this model of coat has been supplemented with a special belt at the back of the coat, which originally served to regulate the size of the waist, and currently serves as a decorative element. It is certainly a very interesting detail, which gives it a bit of a military character – in conjunction with the Italian design this feature creates a very interesting whole.

The double breasted coat is ideal for Spring and I urge you to consider it for this time of year.
